A COURSE IN MIRACLES
A Course
in Miracles teaches that the way to remember God is by undoing guilt and
forgiving others. The course focuses on the healing of relationships and oneself
by removing blocks to the awareness of Love's presence.
Though Christian in statement, the
theme is universal. Therefore, A Course in Miracles may be considered a
course in universal and spiritual psychotherapy.

ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure is based on
an Oriental philosophy that good health develops when qi energy, the life
force that flows within us, moves unobstructed through meridians, or energy
pathways in our body. In acupressure, blocked energy points are simulated or
dispersed using finger of hand pressure instead of needles as in traditional
acupuncture. For definitions of the various forms of acupressure, see
"Jin Shin Jyutsu," and "Shiatsu."

ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture has been practiced in China and neighboring countries
for over 5000 years. It consists of the use of very fine needles and other
devices to stimulate and/or balance the flow of energy (also called “chi” or
electromagnetic currents) through channels or meridians in the body. Acupuncture
is based on ancient Chinese ideas about the rhythm and harmony of the universe
as a whole—the Tao—and the relationship of human beings to that
universe. Health is viewed as a dynamic interaction between each individual’s
inner environment and the exterior world.
Traditionally, acupuncture was used preventatively to correct small imbalances
in the inner environment before they became more serious and resulted in pain
and disease. Today, this principle still holds true, although a person can
benefit from acupuncture at any stage of the balance/imbalance continuum.
Because this system of healing views the person as a whole entity, a sort of
mini-universe within themselves, body/mind and spirit are interconnected.
Healing on one level flows into other levels. Most people experience a unique
sense of well-being and renewal from treatment.

AMMA
THERAPY
“Am-ma” is an ancient Chinese word that means
“push-pull.” It is used to describe a classical Oriental bodywork technique
that many believe predates acupuncture. AMMA therapy, like acupuncture, focuses
on the balance and movement of energy within the body. Whereas the acupuncturist
inserts needles into the energetic pathways to stimulate or move energy (chi),
the AMMA therapist relies on his or her hands to promote energetic flow within
the body. AMMA therapy utilizes a variety of techniques including acupressure,
reflexology, deep tissue massage and the use of herbal liniments as appropriate.
Amma therapy is a powerful therapy for both
the prevention and treatment of many kinds of diseases including lower back
pain, stiff neck and shoulders, discomfort associated with the common cold,
sinus congestion, tension headaches, premenstrual discomfort, circulatory
disorders and arthritis.

ANGELS
Angels are always available to help us create heaven
here on earth. Through step by step meditations, one can be brought into
alignment with the angels and can journal their messages. There are angels for
every occasion, including personal angels, angel guardians, archangels, nature
angels, prosperity angels, healers, rescuers and protectors. Angels’ energy
reach into each individual and can have a profound affect on our personal lives.
At times, negative thoughts and feelings such as fear, guilt, resentment, or
self-doubt can block angelic vibrations. One can learn to ground and release
negative energies, opening oneself to the positive affects of angels.

APPLIED
KINESIOLOGY
Applied Kinesiology is
a branch of chiropractic which emphasizes correction of health through the
balancing of a person's chemistry, structure, and emotions. The system, which
focuses on the whole person, sees a person's spine and health as totally
interconnected. Its practitioners utilize manual muscle testing as a measuring
tool which shows where a problem is and how to correct it. They may incorporate
nutrition, herbs, craniosacral therapy, meridian therapy, massage, or Bach
flower remedies depending on the needs of the particular patient.
There have been several off-shoots of Applied Kinesiology
since its development in the 1960s, including Systemic Repatterning.

AROMATHERAPY
--see also Essential Oils
Virtually unknown in the United States until recently,
aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing forms of the healing arts in this
country. In Europe, where it re-emerged more than 60 years ago, aromatherapy is
actually practiced by doctors, nurses and other health professionals. It is even
taught to medical students in France.
Essential oils are highly concentrated vegetal extracts that contain
hormones, vitamins, antibiotics and antiseptics. They are the most concentrated
forms of herbal energy and their affect can be medicinal, meditative,
restorative and relaxing. The aromatherapist chooses the specific essential oil
for the client’s individual needs as required. The aromatherapist blends and
dilutes the appropriate mix of concentrated essential oils with a “carrier
oil.” This mixture is then soothingly applied to the body by way of a gentle
massage.

ASTROLOGY
Astrology uses a birth chart to map the
positions of the planets, relative to the location and moment of birth. The
interpretation of the chart incorporates the angular relationships between the
planets and the signs of the zodiac, the area of the chart in which they fall
and other symbolic indicators to examine the different experiences and
psychology of the individual.
The pertinent information regarding birth time and location is
given to a trained astrologist, who helps the client to explore deeper
individual potential and meaning, to see how disparate aspects of the
personality may be integrated, and to find ways to draw the greatest fulfillment
from the energies symbolized in the chart.

AURA IMAGING
Breakthrough biofeedback technology combines vibrational medicine and color
psychology with computer science. Now everyone can see what psychics and
clairvoyants have been privy to—one’s own dynamic energy field.
A sensor detects and measures one’s bio-energy or emotional
energetic activity, and correlates the data to specific energetic patterns which
are then displayed as a colorful representation of the aura live and in motion
on screen. One’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual constitution can be
understood through understanding the chakra activity as well as the colors and
their qualities. For instance, red in the heart area means courage, blue coming
into the auric field indicates that the person relates by communicating his or
her feelings and is very open to other people’s emotions. Yellow in the third
chakra or solar plexus shows a strong sense of identity, while white appearing
in that area shows a need for more self-acknowledgement.
Aura and chakra analysis helps one to discover how he or she
processes information and emotions, how to tap into one’s creative potential
and what one needs to energize and balance oneself. Healers and therapists are
using this fantastic visual tool to monitor the changes that occur in a client’s
aura and chakras during the session and to validate the effectiveness of their
work.
Live and instantaneous visual feedback is very healing in
itself. Seeing our colors and energetic patterns change and brighten can help us
understand more about our mind-body connection and move towards a more authentic
expression of ourselves.

AURIC
HEALING
The human body
is constantly nourished by the Human Energy Field (HEF), more commonly known as
the Aura. The health of the field and physical body are intimately related.
Distortions or disturbances in one can offset the balance of the other and this,
over time, causes disease. Auric healing is a modality for creating balance with
the HEF, which in turn facilitates physical health. Using a hands-on technique,
trained practitioners charge, clear, structure and balance the field. The result
is a peaceful balance and a dynamic state of health across physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual levels.

AYURVEDA
Ayurveda means “Science
of Life,” and one of the oldest systems of medicine. It is a preventative
system from India that looks for the underlying unity in nature.
Maharishi Ayur-Veda, formulated in the early 1980's by Maharishi
Mehesh Yogi, brings together modern research and the insights of ayurvedic
theory, which maintains that we are guided by a network of inner intelligence
that determines whether we are sick or well. This intelligence lies deep enough
to alter the patterns that make up our basic constitution.
When we become ill, according to Ayurveda, our basic
constitution or Body Type is out of balance. The Ayurvedic body type corresponds
to nature's elements of air, water, and fire, and our personal realities are
generated from the creative core within.
By knowing one’s body type, an Ayurvedic physician can design
an individualized program to help that person notice and obey his or her correct
instinct for self-healing. This is done by following specific body type diets,
stress management techniques, exercises and yoga, following seasonal and daily
routines, self-massage, the use of herbs, aroma, color and sound therapies, and
most importantly, the use of meditation. According to Ayurveda, meditation is
medicine which takes the self home to the deepest area inside oneself that is
untouched by illness.
